Glendale Independent– Buildings boarded up with plywood will soon be a thing of the past in Glendale. The city is in the process of changing its laws to require clear polycarbonate materials be used to board up any open windows or doors, as a more aesthetic alternative to plywood.
City staff has already been using polycarbonate to board up vacant buildings in recent years, but now it is on its way to outlawing any kind of wood to board up vacant buildings.
“You can see it is a cleaner look using the polycarbonate. We’ve been doing it for about the last three years, and we’re finding it to be successful,” said Deputy City Manager Rick St. John.
The change was discussed in a City Council meeting Tuesday but will not become official until it’s voted on along with other changes to city code, which will take place after Council’s July recess.
