It’s official – for the eighth time – West Fraser has been named as one of 2021’s Canada’s Top 100 Employers.
West Fraser has consistently achieved this top ranking due to our focus on promoting from within and ensuring workplace opportunities for training and skills development like in-house apprenticeship opportunities and new-and-young worker programs.
Selection as a Top Employer is based on a review of several factors, such as the focus on development and promotion from within, workplace opportunities for training and experiential skills development. Our health, financial & family benefits, community involvement through programs like student scholarships carried the Company (one of only two forest product companies) to make the top 100 chart for 2021.
Top Employer for B.C.
West Fraser has been named one of B.C.’s Top Employers! It’s the sixth time we’ve received this award, recognized by a national organization. West Fraser remains committed to British Columbia, where we initially made our start and now operates across the world.
The award is a special designation from the Canada’s Top 100 Employers national competition that recognizes companies that offer the best workplaces and programs in B.C.
Top Employer for Young People
It’s the fifth time we’ve received the award of is one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People for 2021.
The Company was recognized for its commitment to young people and for helping them build their career. West Fraser is dedicated to empowering young people to challenge themselves, supported by our “promote from within” culture. We received this award, in part, due to:
- West Fraser’s partnership with the Quesnel campus of the College of New Caledonia to deliver millwright training and our participation in the development of the Sawfiling apprenticeship program at the Thompson River University campus in Williams Lake are examples of how we support our young apprentices, our communities and the institutions that provide this valuable training for our industry.
- West Fraser manages a “New and Young Worker Program” to provide extensive training to employees under the age of 25 — the program includes orientation, job-shadowing and dedicated training with a supervisor and the mill’s safety resource.
West Fraser prides itself on supporting all of our employees, at every stage in their career. We know that to be a global wood products leader we need dedicated employees and to develop them so they can achieve their potential. It’s our honor to recognized for our commitment and to be chosen by young people as a place to grow their careers.
