By PJ Boyd – When Northern Pulp shuttered its doors in Nova Scotia, many in the province were fearful for the future of the forest industry.

But with housing starts rising across North America, and millions of Canadians taking on home renovation projects during COVID-19 lockdowns, lumber sales are soaring.

That demands has helped mitigate losses and concerns in the industry, and provided an unexpected light at the end of the tunnel, according to an article posted by the CBC.

“The demand is huge,” says Robin Wilber, president of Elmsdale Lumber. “ We can sell everything we make… housing starts in Canada and the States were up high, then four million Canadians went home and I think they decided to build that deck or home renovations.”
